Remember Television’s First Superman George Reeves on his 102nd Birthday

The first time I saw George Reeves was in the movie Gone With The Wind (my mom’s favorite movie) when I was eleven.  He played one of the Tartleton Twins who wanted to escort Scarlett O’ Hara (Vivien Leigh) to the Wilkes barbecue.

Although George Reeves appeared in many films between 1930 and 1956, he is best remembered as television’s first Clark Kent/Superman in the 1950s.

My mom instilled in me a great love of the classic movies of the 1930s, 40s and 50s, so besides for Gone With The Wind , I’ve see George Reeves in ‘Till We Meet Again, The Clock, Blood and Sand and Samson and Deliah.

Reeves died form a fatal gunshot wound at the age of 45 on June 15, 1959. Although his death was officially ruled a suicide, there has been speculation over the years regarding whether he was the victim of an accidental shooting or if he was murdered.

It’s a pity that we will never know the truth about this great actor who was cut down in his prime.
